Embracing Growth: The Lessons We Inherit and Transform
Written on
Chapter 1: The Impact of Inherited Traditions
Let me share a story with you.
In the years to come, you'll begin to understand how to behave, what beliefs to adopt, and whom to trust. Your parents will be your primary teachers, imparting their life perspectives and values to you.
As you mature, you'll find yourself applying these ingrained lessons. Your parents might caution you, saying, “Avoid that friend; they don’t come from a good background,” or “Stay away from those who don’t share our beliefs,” or even “Don’t act like that; it’ll make you seem odd.”
The intention behind their guidance is rooted in their desire to raise you well. Yet, this upbringing is often accompanied by their own experiences and biases, which they've shared with you over time.
You find yourself as a new generation, carrying forward old thought patterns. However, as you begin to carve your own path, you'll start making independent choices, developing your unique perspective, and acting based on your own convictions. This transformation may lead your parents to wonder, “What happened to you?” or “I thought I taught you better.”
While they certainly played a role in your upbringing, you also shaped your own identity. You elevated your thinking and recognized that some traditions no longer resonated with you. You chose to enhance your life and refine your behaviors.
All that you have absorbed will guide you as you strive to become a more evolved version of yourself.
