Embracing Change: Knowing When to Move On
Written on
Chapter 1: The Impact of the Pandemic
Recently, I've taken some time for introspection. The pandemic in 2020 affected many, including myself, leaving us feeling isolated. The sudden shift led many to retreat into their homes, avoiding social interactions entirely.
I halted my writing business, overwhelmed and exhausted. Instead of pursuing traditional jobs, I turned to food delivery apps like DoorDash, seeking to minimize contact with others. The need for solitude became paramount, and I felt drained.
As nearly five years have passed, I've gained valuable insights. I discovered that my aversion to socializing stemmed from exhaustion, not a dislike for people. Working independently on Medium, without the pressure of clients, along with DoorDash, provided the break I so desperately needed.
Now that my earnings on Medium have declined and the gig economy's profitability has dwindled, I feel it may be time to re-engage with writing clients and explore traditional job opportunities outside food delivery.
Reflecting on my past, I found working with animals through Wag and Rover as a pet sitter and dog walker to be incredibly rewarding. I’m considering applying for roles such as a Kennel Technician or Pet Adoption Counselor, something that aligns with my passion.
It’s clear that I need to stop lamenting my financial situation with DoorDash and Medium, and instead, initiate positive changes. It’s time to stop feeling like a victim and recognize when it’s appropriate to move forward.
This journey has taught me the importance of knowing when to let go and embrace new opportunities.
