Chapter 1: The Hangar Discovery

In the echoing confines of the Air Force base hangar, remnants of the San Bruno Park tripod lay scattered, surrounded only by Kurt, Cassandra, and Jake, a homeland security officer overseeing them. Accompanying him were a few military personnel and scientists meticulously studying the wreckage.

They had transported their findings under a tarp using their F-150, parking it close to the scorched remnants of the tripod’s cockpit.

“They should arrive shortly,” Special Agent Brian Sutton mentioned, appearing somewhat anxious—perhaps this discovery was beyond his usual responsibilities.

“From Stanford, right?” Kurt asked.

“Yes,” Sutton confirmed.

As Sutton engaged in casual conversation with Cassandra and Jake, a group of nearly two dozen military officials, high-ranking government agents, and researchers entered the hangar from both an adjoining office area and the entrance the students had previously used.

A silence enveloped the crowd as Sutton prepared to unveil the significant find.

“These researchers are involved in a nuclear fusion initiative at Stanford and, well, discovered additional tripod remnants. What you are about to see surpasses anything we’ve recovered from the primary wreckage,” he explained.

“I’ll hand it over to Dr. Kurt Gimmel,” Sutton concluded.

Before Kurt could speak, Sutton gestured to his assistant, who revealed their extraordinary find by pulling off the tarp.

The audience gasped, resembling a crowd at a circus, as they gazed at the nearly intact alien bulkhead. Kurt began to comprehend their astonishment; this artifact was indeed a remarkable sight.

Jake and Cassandra assisted the aide in placing the discovery onto a gridded section, its designated spot. Sutton beckoned the onlookers to approach.

Kurt began to describe how they stumbled upon this find, sharing their theories regarding the artifact and its extraterrestrial origins.

Dr. Amy Parker, a prominent astrobiologist, interjected, “Dr. Gimmel, your insights on the alien biology’s focus on binocular vision and bilateral symmetry are quite fascinating and align with our anticipations,” she noted, shifting her gaze between him and the wreckage.

A swarm of engineers and scientists gathered around the artifact, murmuring terms such as ‘quantum,’ ‘transistor,’ and ‘PCB’ as they examined the find.

Cassandra and Jake guided the enthralled audience through their discovery.

Before Cassandra could highlight a detail, a bespectacled scientist exclaimed with joy, “We have authentic alien script on this panel!”

At the same moment, a stern general, adorned with a collection of medals, briefed the students on their activities.

“We’ve heard whispers about these ‘peak-heads’—a term we use informally—but we’ve never encountered any form of their art before.”

“Peak-heads?” Jake whispered to Kurt, who nudged him to maintain composure, a smirk betraying his amusement.

The general then turned to Jake.

“So, there’s no visible mouth? And it resembles armor akin to that of an armadillo or reptile? Or perhaps helmets?”

After Jake recounted his experiences, the general added, “Your firsthand account and video documentation are invaluable, young man,” his stern expression softening slightly.

Amid the discussions, Cassandra made a significant announcement that halted the chatter.

“I’ve made strides in decoding their numeric and alphabetic systems,” she stated. “They seem to utilize a base-16 numeric framework, and their alphabet comprises 42 characters, reminiscent of the structure of Hiragana.”

A noted linguist, Dr. Thurmond, nodded thoughtfully, checking his phone to verify her name, “Indeed, Dr. Carlisle, Hiragana has 51 characters, representing all possible syllables in Japanese. Quite intriguing.”

“Furthermore,” Cassandra continued, her excitement palpable, momentarily forgetting her ongoing doctoral studies, “their character system can be visually categorized into six distinct groups, which I hypothesize represent six vowels and seven consonantal sounds.”

Thurmond acknowledged her with a nod and a thumbs-up as he stepped back to allow others to engage.

Her insights lingered in the hangar until a blaring alarm interrupted the atmosphere. The enormous hangar doors began to close, and ominous red lights flickered.

A commanding voice echoed through the loudspeaker, “Attention all personnel, unidentified aerial vehicle approaching. Initiate lockdown.”

The once bustling hangar erupted into organized chaos as the MPs directed everyone toward an underground engineering facility.
