Navigating Pinterest Account Suspensions: Tips and Insights

Chapter 1: Understanding Pinterest Suspensions
Pinterest has been a passion of mine since I stumbled upon it in 2012, captivated by its plethora of recipe ideas and DIY projects. My first attempt was to create Grands biscuit monkey bread drizzled with maple syrup in a bundt pan—a complete disaster! Nevertheless, I continued my exploration of this visual search engine.
A decade later, I’ve utilized Pinterest in various aspects of my business, even participating in the early beta of Pinterest Creator Rewards, which has helped me earn over $10,000 in recent months. Additionally, I manage Pinterest strategies for clients and have built a thriving community of over 5,000 members in a Facebook group dedicated to Pinterest.
While you might think I’m well-versed in Pinterest, I’ve made my share of blunders, resulting in my account being suspended not once, but twice in a single month! Here’s a breakdown of how that happened and tips to avoid similar pitfalls.
Section 1.1: Causes of Suspension
One of the key reasons for my suspension was over-pinning. This term refers to an excessive amount of pins in a short period, which can lead to account flags and subsequent suspensions.
Subsection 1.1.1: What is Over-Pinning?
If your typical pinning rate is around five pins daily but suddenly spikes to 25, that’s considered over-pinning. Additionally, solely sharing your own content—such as products, blog posts, or Medium articles—can also trigger a suspension, as I witnessed with some colleagues.
When I joined the Pinterest Creator Rewards program, I aimed to replicate the success of another creator who earned over $70,000 in a single month. This led me to jump from my usual five pins a day to over 20, which caused Pinterest to suspend my account—twice, no less!

Section 1.2: What to Expect When Suspended
If your Pinterest account gets suspended, the first thing you’ll notice is being logged out. Shortly after, you’ll receive an email from Pinterest outlining the suspension and providing steps to submit an appeal.
The appeal process is time-sensitive, so it’s crucial to act quickly. Typically, the review process may take a few days, especially if it coincides with a weekend, as they may not process appeals during that time.
Once reinstated, you’ll receive an email confirming your account is active again. However, during the suspension, both your account and pins will be inaccessible, meaning any traffic you were driving through Pinterest will diminish significantly.
Fortunately, I successfully navigated the reinstatement process twice, and now I’m back on track!
Chapter 2: Tips to Prevent Account Suspension
To keep your Pinterest account in good standing, adhere to the platform's guidelines. Diversify your pins by including both your content and that of other pinners. If you plan to ramp up your pinning activity significantly, do so gradually to avoid triggering any alarms.
