Meals on (Two) Wheels: The Tastebox Experience in North London

Chapter 1: Exploring Caribbean Flavors
When one hears the term “curry,” it often evokes thoughts of Asian dishes, particularly those from the Indian subcontinent. However, Caribbean kitchens also boast staples like curry goat, a culinary remnant from the era of indentured servitude. Recently, I indulged my craving for Jamaican curry goat at the Tastebox located on Gillespie Road in Islington, north London.
As a devoted Blues supporter, I was acutely aware of my surroundings—Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium towered in the distance, a reminder of their recent victory over Chelsea. Nonetheless, the enticing aroma of jerk chicken grilling drew me in, compelling me to stop and savor the offerings.
The curry goat proved to be extraordinarily delectable. Its slow-cooked, flavorful profile was just what I needed after a grueling bike ride. The combination of spices was vibrant, with goat meat simmered for hours alongside garlic, ginger, Scotch bonnet peppers, onions, and thyme. The curry itself was the highlight, and I particularly enjoy it when it's thick and creamy.
Accompanying my curry goat was the classic rice and peas, another staple of Caribbean fare. By the time I finished my meal, the recent Chelsea vs. Arsenal match faded from my mind. This is the magic of truly exquisite food; it can make you forget your loyalties to a football team.
