Chapter 1: The Importance of Direction
It's futile to sprint if you're heading the wrong way.

When I started my business, I often found myself working twelve-hour days, believing that sheer effort equated to progress. However, despite my hard work, I frequently felt stagnant, not reaching my desired outcomes. This situation can manifest in various areas of life, whether it's striving for a fulfilling relationship without true connection, pursuing career success while feeling trapped in a dead-end job, or aiming for a fit body while remaining overweight.
Often, the root of the issue isn't a lack of dedication. You may be putting in the effort, yet without a clear path, you might end up veering off course. It's all too easy to assume we have everything figured out, but when it truly matters, we often lose sight of our direction. Our instincts may lead us towards immediate gratification rather than aligning with our core values.
“Planning for an hour can save you ten hours of execution.”
— Dale Carnegie
Realizing how much time, money, and energy I squandered made me aware of the necessity for a structured approach to stay focused. I was tired of guessing and wanted definitive steps to create the life I envisioned. This realization led me to develop weekly and monthly review templates.
These templates have been instrumental in my journey, and I invite you to utilize them as well.
Section 1.1: Weekly Reviews for Sustained Focus
Your weekends can be more than just time away from work; they are precious opportunities for reflection and planning. By setting small, manageable goals for the week, you can make subtle adjustments instead of losing your way entirely.
Every Saturday, I dedicate ten minutes to my weekly review, which is divided into four categories to maximize learning and progress:
- Reflection
- What were my achievements from last week?
- What lessons did I learn?
- How can I improve my performance and happiness this week?
- Planning
- What responsibilities and deadlines are upcoming?
- What challenges do I foresee, and how can I prepare?
- Direction
- What small step can I take towards my long-term goals?
- Priorities & Commitments
- What are the three most impactful tasks I need to focus on?
- What key habit do I aim to cultivate next week, and how will I stay accountable?
- How can I connect meaningfully with important people in my life?
To implement this, simply copy these questions and set a recurring reminder on your phone or calendar to review them weekly.
Section 1.2: Monthly Reviews for Significant Progress
Why do we have months that are approximately 30 days long? This structure traces back to the ancient Roman calendar, where time was measured by lunar cycles—each lasting around 29.5 days. When the moon completes a full cycle, we too should reflect on our progress.
I utilize my monthly review to establish benchmarks that keep me aligned with my annual objectives, ensuring I live fully in the moment while working towards my goals. This process mirrors the weekly review but delves deeper with broader questions:
- Reflection
- What developments occurred this past month?
- What did I accomplish?
- What skills have I enhanced?
- Am I content, aligned with my standards, and progressing in the right direction?
- What tasks or projects should I prioritize for next month?
- Status Quo
- What is my most significant challenge at the moment?
- What recurring thoughts do I notice?
- What opportunities am I currently aware of?
- Is there something I’m either neglecting or over-focusing on?
- Planning
- What projects and commitments lie ahead for the coming month?
- What challenges should I anticipate, and how can I prepare?
- What activities do I want to prioritize, and how will I achieve that?
- Which habit or skill would be advantageous to develop?
- Summary
- What is my primary goal for next month?
- What three other key objectives do I want to reach?
- Which habits or skills will I work on?
- What is my biggest challenge, and how will I address it?
- How will I reward myself for these achievements?
Just like the weekly review, the monthly review involves copying these questions, scheduling a reminder, and reflecting at the end of each month.
Chapter 2: The Advantages of Regular Reviews
Conducting regular reviews transcends merely answering questions or checking off lists.
Life can become chaotic, making it essential to ensure that vital tasks do not slip through the cracks and that you don't waste your efforts. Few experiences are more disheartening than working tirelessly without seeing results or realizing you’ve been moving in the wrong direction.
Consistent reviews provide a sense of security and confidence in your actions. They offer clarity and peace of mind by confirming that you are indeed on the correct path. Ultimately, the few minutes invested in these reviews will yield significant rewards.
All it takes is to replicate these questions, set a reminder, and engage with them regularly.
Stop drifting aimlessly and start living intentionally.
